I REALLY still do not understand alicorn hate… Honestly, there are more marry sue NON alicorns then there are alicorns! If I had a nickle for every non unicorn that could cast magic or do crazy super human… er… pony things I would be rich. Alicorns are suppose to be rare and restricted, I know that, but there are some good well balanced and designed alicorns.
Honestly, Hate should be directed at the actual character and not WHAT the character is. Alicorns are always flagged as “terrible” right off the bat without even being given a chance. If they godmod, power play, have some retarded back story like “Oh, I am princess lunas sister and blah blah blah” ok, whatever, bash them. But there are good alicorns that people should get to know before bashing. AND if you hate alicorns just because your view is that only the princesses should be alicorns, then just walk away! Don’t go out of your way to bash someone.
Like I have said, I know of more marry sue non alicorns than alicorns. I am not saying bad alicorns dont exist, I am just saying Alicorns seem to get the most hate just because of what they are.
Sorry to go off on a tangent like this, I am not trying to bash anyone it just annoys me when I read stuff like “All alicorn oc’s are bad” and blah blah blah. Because its not true at all. It really all depends on the player. If the one role playing the character is a marry sue, then it does not matter what they play because they are going to play a marry sue.
I play an alicorn, ill say that right out. When I started my blog I was not an alicorn or even a real pony. I was a pontification of the Mega Man character Bass. As I roleplayed I eventually started roleplaying with Lunaanswers who turned Bass into an alicorn. You know how I handled it? I had it weaken him. Bass has literally no real talent in magic for an alicorn and his flight is average at best. He gets his ass handed to him regularly! The only God Mod/Marry sue action I take with him is that he regenerates, that he is immortal. And even for being immortal I space out his regeneration. A good example being that not to long ago he broke his horn casting a spell, a minor one at that. I waited 2 OOC weeks of time for him to regenerate a horn. It wasn’t instant, it was not a few in rp days, it took a long time. You can argue that “Oh, having him heal is marry sue in it of its self” but that makes me wonder… How many people would rp letting something like that happen to their character in the first place? How is that any more marry sue then just saying “Nope, that does not happen, retcon”. Physically, Magically, overall he is weak. I don’t play him as an all powerful alicorn. He is just another pony who happens to have wings and a horn.
